太平洋戦争 Volume 1

As the title suggests, this is the first volume of a two-volume work by the author, a former journalist, on the Pacific War. The author explains his motivation for writing this book in the "Foreword. The author's intention was "above all, to tell the story of the war by doing the war.

　This volume begins in August 1941, before the outbreak of the Pacific War, and ends with the withdrawal from Guadalcanal Island. The book is written by carefully reading not only Japanese documents but also U.S. documents on the Japanese center's response to the war, the attack on Pearl Harbor, the battles on the Malay Peninsula, the invasions of Hong Kong and Singapore, and the Battle of Midway. The author spent five years in writing this book, which is understandable. It is a valuable work for understanding the overall picture of the Pacific War.
